Mapping the historical cultural landscape of ORP Prachatice by the tools of GIS
Abstract: The methodology of the Typology of the Historical-Cultural Landscapes of the Czech Republic defines typological features, which are manifestations of human activity in the landscape, typical in a certain period and space. It assumes that on the basis of the identified typological features and their density, it is possible to define typological units of Historical Cultural Landscapes. The thesis extracts primary and secondary characteristics of Historical Cultural Landscapes from nationwide publicly available databases and determines its potential to define individual units based on their density in the areas of interest. The Prachatice district (ORP) was used as a model area, in which a number of sub-areas with the potential to define a total of 19 Historical Cultural Landscapes units were defined using GIS techniques. The identified areas with the potential to define Historical Cultural Landscapes cannot be considered as finally defined units of Historical Cultural Landscapes, but only as one of the analytical bases for their actual definition, which must be carried out, among other things, on the basis of thorough field surveys. However, the preliminary determination of the potential of the area for the definition of Historical Cultural Landscapes types can itself be a very sound basis for spatial planning in terms of the protection of the landscape values of the area, since the definition of the potential is based on the calculation of the density of selected phenomena, which were taken independently of the actual assessment, and the verification of the data is possible in publicly accessible databases, including the analyses carried out.
