FUAs‘ problematics, its definition, selected problems and approach in Czech Republic
Abstract: This article focuses on the issue of Functional Urban Areas (FUAs). These are the territories beyond city borders representing a source of labour for the city, and often have the housing function. At the beginning of the article there is an introduction of some approaches to FUA issues abroad. The main part of the paper deals with the approaches to defining the concept of FUA in the Czech Republic. At the accompanying figures that are part of the article it can be seen how the described territory differs according to the practical application of these definitions. Application is focused on the Czech Republic. As a separate example, the definition of a territory in the Moravian-Silesian Region for the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) Ostrava region is briefly presented. For better understanding of the FUAs general application in the Czech Republic is another part of the article devoted to planning documents at the state level where FUAs should be addressed. In the conclusions the possibilities and responsibility for the development of these areas in today's structure of public administration and local self-government are considered.
