Glamping and Its Typology

Abstract: The topic of the paper is alternative types of short-term accommodation, which can be found under the term "glamping". They are solitary minimalist accommodations with a built-up area of up to 25 m2. There are various types of glamping objects - for example tiny houses, tree houses or houseboats, but also teepee tents. This relatively new tourism trend which combines nature and comfort is classified as ecotourism and is spreading rapidly, in the Czech Republic and also abroad. The work is focused on the issue of glamping in the Czech Republic. Although glamping accommodation is growing in popularity, it does not receive much attention in the professional community. There is a lack not only of professional discussion on the topic of glamping, its overall description, but also of legislation that would describe the approach to tiny buildings. Among other issues, the typology of glamping buildings, which is the basis for further professional work on glamping, is not defined. The goal of this paper is to offer a basic categorization of glamping objects and to offer an initial step to the professional description of glamping in the Czech Republic. The typology is based on an analysis of glamping in the Czech Republic and knowledge of its current problems. The typological groups of glamping were defined as: tiny houses, tents, houseboats and motorhomes. The work also includes a mapping of objects in the Czech Republic, which will be presented on a map including the representation of each type of glamping accommodation.
